The Friends of Sauratown Mountains will once again partner with the Stokes County Arts Council to sponsor the Reach the Peaks hiking challenge at Hanging Rock State Park.  The National Public Lands Day event this year will be on Saturday, September 27th with registration open from 7:30 am – 9:30 am. Look for the link for Online preregistration on the Home page.  Preregistration will be $25 and day of registration will be $35.  All proceeds will be divided between the two sponsoring organizations.
Hikers and runners will begin the 11 mile circuit at the Visitor’s Center and then progress to check points at Moore’s Knob, Cook’s Wall, House Rock, Wolf Rock, and finally Hanging Rock before returning to the finish at the Visitor’s Center.  Everyone progresses at their own pace but we will have monitors and sweeps on the course.  Participants completing the challenge will receive a commemorative patch, tee shirt, metal water bottle and lunch.
We hope you can join us this year as a participant, or as a volunteer.  We will have more activities this year for the participants and park visitors who wander by the booths.  We need volunteers to staff registration tables, booths, and food & drink tables.  An appeal has gone directly to a few for volunteering as course monitors and sweeps, but if you are interested in that please let us know as well.
Please email Jay at to volunteer, or if you have questions.  We hope to see you there!
